The nerves were a tangible thing at the start line this past Sunday at Skippy Park. For nine of our young riders, this wasn't just another training session; it was their first real race.
Once the first few pushes of the pedal came around however, those pre-race jitters turned into pure focus. A rhythm formed in the bunch, and soon, a lead group of three riders stretched out, putting the pressure on lap after lap. It was a thrilling display of the tactics and skills we've been working on, including attacking and drafting.
The race came down to a thrilling finish, showcasing a perfectly executed plan. Xavier, riding smart and patient, let Robbie take the lead as he prepared for his move. In a decisive moment, Xavier launched his attack prior to the final bend, a move we had discussed in our sessions. He took the lead and crossed the line comfortably, earning a well-deserved win.
But the real victory belonged to every single rider. Well done to all nine juniors for their incredible effort and for making it a truly great morning of racing. Seeing their smiles light up after pushing their limits is what this program is all about. We're incredibly proud of them all! Turning up is winning!
